I was first asked to create the sign of a local Butcher Shop, by a friend theirs as a Christmas gift.
I was given full creative control on this project. I only had to include their logo on the sign and maybe make some hooks or something. lol
The board I found was 4 feet long and 2 feet wide. I wanted to make the logo as large as possible. I used my pyrography skills to burn my normal temperature for the outline and shading, but when it came to burning the cleaver I turned my temperature way down to give it some great contrast.
I took 7 railroad spikes, cut them, and then welded them back up to make a hook shape. If I would have had a forge I would have just bent them myself, but I go with what I have. I welded a piece of all thread to the back, that is what is going to help attach them to the board. I drilled holes and attached them to the board with a washer and locking nut. I then cut off the excess all thread.
They chose to burn the background with a torch instead of applying a stain. (I honestly believe the stain would have looked better when it comes to making the cleaver pop, but I do what my customers want.)
